This was an opening set for Leftover Salmon
Original DAT Recording by Scott Bernstein & Bill "VanillG" Mulvey.
Transferred, Mastered and tracked by Scott Bernstein 5/6/2010.
Taper notes:
Digging ever deeper into my DAT collection for BARN32-33, here's a pair of shows that have neither previously seen the light of day, nor likely have ever even been previously played back since I recorded them. Bill Mulvey & I went to Mercury Lounge for 2 nights of Leftover Salmon. We decided to step it up a notch to improve the sound of our recordings at Mercury Lounge, and try running my mics in omni, split right onstage in front of the PA stacks. So we had to get there early and wound up getting these 2 Bad Livers sets recorded as a bonus.
What made me think of digging these out (even though I probably hadn't thought about the Bad Livers in 10 years) was first of all, having seen Danny Barnes just recently at Joe's Pub here in NYC (and the following night sitting in with moe. at Roseland) and Jen requesting some bluegrass be added to the BARN series. So while this isn't exactly traditional bluegrass, it does actually come a lot closer than the Flecktones show I did for Jen as BARN30. :-)
Anyway, these recordings do indeed sound great, and I went through lots of extra trouble to make them sound great for you all.
Enjoy!
Scott

- Lineage
- Neumann TLM170s(split omnis in front of L/R PA stacks) -> Sonosax -> Teac DAP20 (16 bit, 48khz, EMPHASIS ON) Transfer: Sony R500->Sound Devices 722 Mastered: Soundforge Pro 10.0b - *All file manipulation in Soundforge done at 24 bits* Sample rate conversion 48khz to 44.1khz using iZotope 64-Bit SRC set higher than "Highest Quality" setting w/anti-alias filter. 24 bit file then processed with SOX 14.3.1 (as recommended, keeping the file at 24 bits during the processing) to remove pre-emphasis which was applied by the Teac A>D converter. Then back to Soundforge for time aligning the L/R channel [note that apparently one of the mics was moved at about 12:58 in the show, which resulted in another time alignment at that point], volume normalization and finally then dithered back to 16 bits using using iZotope MBIT+ with Ultra noise shaping, High dither settings. Tracked in CDWav.
